General Overview

Gregory L. Williams is a co-founder and member of Markus Williams Young & Zimmermann LLC and supervises the Cheyenne, Wyoming office for the firm. Greg’s practice focuses on business bankruptcies, loan workouts and restructurings, creditors' rights and commercial litigation, and the defense of financial institutions in federal, state, and bankruptcy courts. A substantial portion of his practice is devoted to counseling financial institutions on a broad spectrum of creditors' rights issues, including the avoidance of and response to lender liability claims. In addition, Greg represents both liquidating and chapter 11 trustees and unsecured creditor committees. Greg brings a career of courtroom experience to the drafting and structuring of secured loans. His transactional experience includes the negotiation and documentation of major real estate and commercial acquisition, development, and construction loans, counsel for lead lenders in syndicated and participated credit facilities and agricultural loans, and the documentation of credit facilities for low-income housing projects.

  • In re Albrecht – represented chapter 11 trustee in liquidation of largest individual chapter 11 proceeding filed to date in the District of Wyoming resulting in the recovery of millions of dollars for distribution to unsecured creditors

  • In re Lacy, 306 Fed.Appx. 413, C.A. 10 (Colo.) 2008 – represented primary unsecured creditor in successful post-confirmation liquidation of debtor’s real estate and art work and recovery of assets transferred by debtor in violation of the plan resulting in multi-million dollar recovery to the unsecured creditors of the estate

  • Yaklich v. Grand County, 278 Fed.Appx. 797, C.A. 10 (Colo.) 2007 – represented secured creditor in successful defense of lender liability claims of developer-borrower

  • Mohamedbhai v. Commercial Federal Bank, 2007 WL 779952, D. Colo. 2007 – represented lender in successful defense of alleged violations of civil rights in Federal Court jury trial

  • In re Blehm Land & Cattle, Co., 859 F.2d 137, 1988, C.A.10 (Colo.) 1988 – successfully represented secured lender in enforcing creditor’s rights in chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization seeking to re-characterize lender’s real estate collateral

  • Alamosa Nat. Bank v. San Luis Valley Grain Growers, Inc., 756 P.2d 1022, Colo. App., 1988 – successfully asserted secured lender’s Article 9 rights in collateral in case of first impression under Colorado UCC

  • Cooper Drilling, Inc. v. San Luis Valley Land Co., 743 P.2d 448, Colo. App. 1987 – successful representation of secured creditor’s rights in agricultural real estate collateral in state court

  • Linnebur v. Public Service Co. of Colorado, 716 P.2d 1120, Colo. 1986 – represented rancher in defense of condemnation proceedings for high-voltage power lines in case of first impression in Colorado

  • People v. McCrary, 190 Colo. 538, 549 P.2d 1320 Colo. 1976 – successfully represented the State of Colorado in affirmance of first degree murder conviction
